Completely On Your Own (balance)

India Ink, Marker, and Watercolor on 9"x12" watercolor paper

This piece is a tribute to the work of Vladamir Nabokov, the author most famous for Lolita. The line of text is from that novel.  It is something that  Humbert Humbert overhears Lolita saying to her friends and it makes him realize that she has an inner life as rich as his, that he has taken her childhood from her, and that the harm he's done is real and profound.

Balance is achieved through the size of the shapes and their relative distance from the center of the work.  There are also two sets color triads that are orbiting around the center of the piece.
